Captain Justin Painter
100-ton USCG Captain’s license
Captain Justin Painter has spent a lifetime on the water. A year-round Martha’s Vineyard resident and U.S. Coast Guard 100-Ton Master, he pairs professional seamanship with a genuine passion for sharing the Vineyard by sail.
Raised on Lake George, New York, Justin learned to sail early and, after graduating from St. Lawrence University, built a wide-ranging maritime career—teaching, rigging, racing—and has handled everything from J/22s to tall ships. He moved to Martha’s Vineyard in 2012, where he now lives with his wife and children.
When he’s not at the helm, Justin works as a registered nurse at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, helps run his wife’s fly-fishing business, Kismet Outfitters, and serves as a captain for the iconic Chappaquiddick Ferry.
